Everything Make it Yours does is designed to make a positive difference in society.

We exist to leave a sustainable legacy.  Leaders leave any engagement with Make it Yours better equipped to lead themselves and others.  They create a positive ripple by their behavior and the example they set.

As philosopher Albert Schweitzer said:

“Example is not the main thing in influencing others, it is the only thing.”

Our programmes and workshops have a profoundly positive impact on people and whilst we know they will leave and spread that positive impact; we offer them the opportunity to be even more proactive by joining the Make it Yours Community.

Where practicable, we look to partner organisations, individuals and sporting bodies with charities, social enterprises, looked after children and those in the youth justice system, to enable all sides to develop mutually enriching relationships with the common goal of realising potential.  We call this our OASIS Strategy.

Jack Lewars – Chief Operating Officer SOHK

“I have seen first hand the impact that MiY has had on our beneficiaries, both in direct workshops and by enabling mentoring relationships.  Farren and his team deliver hugely impactful lessons in goal-setting, motivation and visualisation.  These have helped us transform the lives of some of the UK’s most disadvantaged people.”

Case Study

School of Hard Knocks

We are partnering with the School of Hard Knocks (SOHK) – an ambitious charity with an established brand, working to tackle issues surrounding unemployment, crime and health, securing great results in getting long-term unemployed into work through the vehicle of sport. SOHK has an annual flagship Sky TV Programme, hosted by international rugby stars and TV pundits Will Greenwood and Scott Quinnell.

Outside this, it runs programmes across the country using boxing and rugby to embed sporting values and self-discipline and build confidence. Its 6-8 week programmes have life-changing impacts and it was clear these could be sustained even more effectively if the participants were supported with a mentor.

Make it Yours has been involved for a number of years with SOHK, running ‘Be the best you can be’ confidence and goal setting workshops using the Visual Success Map with participants.

As a great example of our OASIS Strategy’s ‘joining the dots’ philosophy in action, MiY trained a team of mentors to work with SOHK participants. The volunteer mentors came from businesses and individuals supporting SOHK, the SOHK team themselves and four 1st team players from London Irish RFC, participating in a leadership programme run by MiY. Some of these mentors went on to work with graduates of an earlier SOHK boxing programme that was set up for 20 women in Croydon. Mentees so value this type of support. It keeps them focused and on track to achieve the goals they set themselves. They are believed in, challenged and supported. The mentors derive great benefit from it too.

“Making a positive difference in another person’s life is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done’ said a player at Premiership Champions Northampton Saints.”

MiY also worked with SOHK to enable mentors from the participants in a Lewisham programme to work with a major corporate running a Work Ready Programme to help homeless people into work and to start a new life. This is about creating a very virtuous loop and entirely consistent with our Vision of enriching lives and transforming leadership and performance by connecting people to build, share and achieve their goals’
